Yesterday I spent the day at Safeway corporate headquarters to find out about their new eCoupon program. Today is a huge day for Safeway. They are launching their “Just for U” program in all Northern California locations. I actually got to test Just for U yesterday and can see both the value and disadvantages.
Here are a few things to know about “Just for U.”
Just for U is a specialized savings eCoupon program. They’ve come up with a way to personalize your shopping experience. Once you sign up for Just for U, by entering your club card or phone number, they will show you three new ways to save. Here are the new ways to save just by using Just For U.
- Coupon Center: The largest digital grocery coupon site in North America, no more clipping coupons at Safeway!
- Personalized Deals: Deals specific to your club card purchases. Good for up to 90 days plus they can be used over and over again.
- Your Club Specials: All the items you buy that are currently Club Card specials (or in ad deals) that will be updated each week.
Here are my personal thoughts:
The Good: This is a really great program for those of you who do not clip coupons. Now you have all the coupons at just a click away. If there is an item you buy regularly, this item will most likely be in your personalized deals at a low shelf price, just for you. If you forget your grocery list, it can be printed right at the store. They will have Just for U centers located in each store. If you’ve been wanting to try home delivery, this is a great time to try it. You can now use the Just for U coupon program and get the same great deals as if you where shopping in the stores.
The Bad: No more eCoupons at Safeway. You won’t be able to get those great “stacking” deals we’ve grown use to. You can stack coupons with the Personalized deals and Club Card savings but not with coupons directly from the Coupon Center. The coupons from the Coupon Center are for a one time use only. So you will still need to print extra coupons or clip coupons if you want to stock up on an item. You also really have to double check and triple check your receipt. As in the past, there may be issues with the coupon value actually coming off.
For those of you in Northern California you can sign up online. You will actually need to update and print your grocery lists at least 30 minutes prior to check-out. Also, if you sign up for Just For U, you’ll have a Personalized Coupon for a FREE dozen eggs waiting for you!
